BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- "October Baby," the new feature film from Birmingham's Jon and Andy Erwin, will open in select theaters in Alabama and Mississippi on Friday, Oct. 28.
The coming-of-age picture stars Dothan native and University of Montevallo graduate Rachel Hendrix, above, as a college freshman who learns she was adopted following a failed abortion and travels to Mobile in hopes of finding her birth mother.
The cast also includes John Schneider of TV's "The Dukes of Hazzard and "Smallville" and Jasmine Guy of "A Different World" and "The Vampire Diaries."
The Erwin brothers have made several Christian-themed music videos and short films, as well as the post-9/11 documentary "The Cross and the Towers," but "October Baby" is their first theatrical feature.
In the Birmingham area, their picture is scheduled to open at the Rave Patton Creek theater in Hoover and the AmStar 14 in Alabaster.
The movie will open in about 15 other markets in Alabama and Mississippi, with a nationwide release set for next spring.
The Erwin brothers shot "October Baby" last fall in Birmingham, Mobile and on Dauphin Island. "Everyone that sees the film talks about how beautiful it is," Jon Erwin says. "I attribute that to the wonderful state of Alabama."
