A servant of God Lester Sumrall defined word of wisdom as the revealing of the prophetic future under the anointing of God. It is a supernatural revelation of divine purposes of God. It is a divine communication, a message to the Body of Christ from God given by the Holy Spirit. In other words, it is information that comes from outside the bounds of that person's natural processes; information that his or her mind did not conceive, ears did not hear, and eyes did not see.

Old Testament prophets were endowed with the gift of word of wisdom and were able to foretell the future. Usually, when God gave a word, it was a fragment of truth. However, wisdom can be generally defined as an accumulated knowledge or erudition or enlightenment. Wisdom is among other nine gifts of the Spirit is a very important gift to possess. If a man or woman lacks the gift of wisdom, he or she would find it difficult to navigate the cares of life. Wisdom is a key gift and a powerful gift that can sustain all other known gifts on its shoulders. Wisdom is necessary for humans to live on have a bright life.
