Lolo Jones took to Twitter to inform her followers as well as the world that her virginity is based on religion, Christianity to be specific.

Jones' new found fame resulted from a nationwide televised interview and documentary regarding her life stuggles and how virginity has been part of those struggles.

In the interview, she shares that the reason why she chose to wait until marriage to have sex was because, "[virginity] is a gift I want to give to my husband."

But there is more to what may be popularly perceived as a simple gesture to make her future husband feel special by giving him this gift of exclusivity.

The U.S. Olympian came clear on Twitter regarding her motives behind abstinence when she tweeted the following:

"I am a Christian. Saving myself for marriage bc that's what the Bible taught me to do."

It's the second time in less than an year that an atlhete gets an overwhelming amount of attention for basing their abstinence on religion. The first time was Tim Tebow.

In Jones' case however, she confesses that struggling with the temptation to have sex was the hardest thing ever, even harder than training or qualifying for the Olympics. She shared that at times she was also told by guys that having sex would make her run faster, but the sprinter would still refuse to depart from her principles.

Jones credits these decisions to the way she was brought up by her mother who took her to church where she studied the bible.

The track star has recently took good advantage of her new found fame by drawing attention on Twitter and obtaining numerous amounts of followers.

She recently poked some fun on Usain Bolt and Tim Tebow on the micro-blogging network with messages such as, "When Usain Bolt is at a race, I'm the free bread they serve b4 the meal. U don't want my autograph kid? No, I don't know where Usain is..." and "Ask Tebow if he wants a glass of milk. If he says yes, ask him if he prefers chocolate. if he says no, then no more Tebow date suggestions."

Jones is a 29-year-old track and field athlete who in the 100m and 60m hurdles. She will be attempting to make it to the 2012 London Olympics this summer. The qualifiers will take place in Oregon in late June.
