Together with an organization called Crossroads, a group of more than 40 college students who walked across the United States converged in Washington, D.C., last weekend for a pro-life rally at the U.S. Capitol. The rally marked the conclusion of four simultaneous pro-life walks across America that began in Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles.

Passing through 40 states and thousands of towns and cities, members of the group, including Crossroads representatives, say they witnessed the reality that the overwhelming majority of Americans identify themselves as pro-life.

“The mainstream media may tell you different, but we can say with authority and through actual experience at the grass-roots level that America is truly a pro-life country,” said Jim Nolan, national director of Crossroads Pro-Life. “The reality is that the Obama administration is sadly out of touch with the values of mainstream America.

“We know because what we experienced firsthand from the hundreds of thousands of people we meet along the way is in stark contrast to the strident stances now coming from the leadership in Washington, D.C.”

The four walks began May 19 and concluded at Upper Senate Park near the Capitol. Walking through rain or shine, the group has spent the last 12 weeks witnessing to hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Crossroads walkers also engaged local communities through peaceful, prayerful protests and sidewalk counseling at abortion clinics in the cities through which they traveled.

Wearing shirts emblazoned with the words “PRO-LIFE” in big letters on the front, the dedicated walkers have had an amazing summer.

“With the recent attacks by the Obama administration on religious liberty and conscience rights of pro-life Americans, the witness of these young people is needed more now than ever,” Nolan said. “The dignity and value of human life is under unprecedented assault in our country—we need to take a stand and let our elected representatives that America is a pro-life country.

“The polls show what we’ve been seeing for many years—the majority of Americans are pro-life and the ultra-left in our country is out of touch.”

Crossroads has sponsored similar pro-life walks across America every summer since 1995. During the journey, each walker averages more than 1,000 miles and takes an active role in the organization’s mission by speaking to churches and youth groups as well as doing radio and newspaper interviews.

Crossroads also sponsored its fifth annual pro-life walk across Canada this summer as well as walks in Ireland and Spain.
